Here is what the installation process looks like from start to finish.
Step 1. Site assessment and sizing. We help you determine the right unit size based on household size and usage. This step is critical. An undersized unit will not perform correctly. An oversized one wastes money you didn’t need to spend.
Step 2. Unit delivery. Your biodigester unit arrives at your site. Units come pre-assembled and ready for installation.
Step 3. Excavation. Your fundi excavates the pit to the required depth. For most residential units, this is straightforward and does not need heavy machinery. Soil type matters here. Sandy loam excavates easily. Black cotton soil, common in parts of Thika Road, Rongai, and Ngong, expands and contracts with moisture. That affects excavation and how the pit walls behave once the unit is in.
Step 4. Unit placement and pipe connections. The unit is lowered into the pit, levelled, and connected to the inlet pipe from the house and the outlet pipe to the soakage pit. Pipe gradient matters as much as the tank itself. Wastewater has to flow downhill by gravity the entire way. A flat or reversed gradient is one of the most common causes of blockages in poorly installed systems.
Step 5. Soakage pit construction. The soakage pit receives treated effluent. It is built to the correct size and depth for your soil type. Free draining soils need a smaller soakage area. Clay heavy or black cotton soils drain more slowly and need more room.
Step 6. Backfilling and compaction. Soil is backfilled around the unit and compacted in layers. This step is critical for structural stability. Backfill too fast, or with oversized rocks and debris, and you risk the tank shifting or cracking later.

A standard residential installation takes one to two working days. This assumes no unusual site conditions, such as very deep rock or difficult access.
