Our Story

Bio Tank Africa Ltd. is Kenya’s pioneer manufacturer and distributor of factory-made, ready-to-install plastic biodigester systems. Established in 2018 and headquartered in Thika, Kenya, the company has rapidly grown to become the market leader in affordable, eco-friendly onsite sanitation solutions for homes, businesses, and institutions across Kenya.

With over 7,000 homes and businesses served and a nationwide distribution network spanning four key branches, Bio Tank Africa has redefined what sustainable sanitation looks like for the everyday Kenyan. The company’s f lagship product line, the BioTank Biodigester® eliminates the need for costly exhauster trucks.

Bio Tank Africa’s portfolio extends beyond biodigesters to include grease traps, bio enzymes (Bioclean septic), oil and water separators, and Tazo- cleaning products — making it a comprehensive one-stop shop for wastewater management needs across the residential, commercial, and institutional sectors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Biotank Biodigester ever get full?

No. Unlike a conventional septic tank, the Biotank Biodigester does not fill up. Naturally occurring microbial enzymes continuously break down waste and sludge anaerobically inside the chambers. The end product is treated effluent (mostly water), which is displaced into the
soak pit and safely absorbed into the ground.

Yes. The biodigester can be installed in swampy or waterlogged ground, provided it is positioned on the highest available point within that zone. This elevation prevents groundwater from backflowing into the system and protects its treatment performance.

Yes. Black cotton soil sites need the correct biodigester size for your number of users and project specifications, together with an extended soak pit. The larger soak pit increases the surface area available for absorption, compensating for the soil’s naturally slow percolation.

For high-usage systems, add two packets of BioClean Septic every 6 months. For normal residential use, two packets applied once a year is enough to maintain a healthy bacterial colony.

No. Only black water (toilet wastewater) should enter the biodigester. Grey water from kitchens
and bathrooms should be routed separately, through a grease trap and directly to the soak pit, since it often carries detergents and bleaching agents that kill the beneficial bacteria the system relies on.

We don’t install directly, because the Biotank Biodigester is a plug-and-play system that does not require specialised personnel. Your local site plumber can install it using the included installation manual, and if needed, we can refer you to a qualified technician in your area.

Yes. We deliver countrywide, either through our company truck or via courier services at a standardised fee.
